Education

Ghana has a work force of 11.1 million people.  Agriculture and fishing takes up half of that at 47.9%.  Many teachers teach class without basic essentials such as blackboards, relevant books for the culture, and supplies as paper and pencils.  Our goal is to provide books for the primary schools in Damongo in the Northern Region of Ghana.

Health

The Aids virus has become an epidemic that has killed millions.  Thanks to medical research many medicines have been developed to help treat the disease which is very necessary.  However there is no cure.  The only cure is prevention by teaching the best health education of abstinence or having one partner throughout a marriage.

Recently Ghana has experienced a 12% increase of the Guinea worm, a debilitating and painful infection caused by a large roundworm.  It begins with a blister on the leg and then it erupts and to relieve the pain the person usually immerse the infected part in open water sources such as ponds and shallow wells.  The water stimulates the worm  and thousands of larvae are released.  The larva is ingested by a water flea (Cyclops), where it develops and becomes infective in two weeks.  When a person drinks the water, the cyclops is dissolved by the acidity of the stomach, and the larva is activated and penetrates the gut wall.

For persons living in remote areas with no access to medical care, healing can take several weeks.  This can be further complicated by bacterial infection,  stiff joints, arthritis and even permanent deliberating contractures of the limbs.  People in endemic villages especially in the Northern regions of Ghana are incapacitated during peak agricultural seasons.  This seriously affects the agriculture production and the availability of food particularly for young children.   Clean water should not be treated like a commodity but it is essential for healthy living.

Shelter for Orphans - URGENT

This is Tijuanna in Damango, a village in the Northern region of Ghana.  The lease for these children will soon be up.  The property that they are currently in is owned by a Muslim who is not happy about their conversions to Christianity. We must help them build a new home.  The need is urgent for construction materials and operation oversight.
